RISO

What the heck even is it?

Risograph printing, or simply “Riso,” is a hybrid between screen printing and traditional photocopying that’s produces vibrant colors, unique-but-recognizable textures, and eco-friendly printing using soy-based ink.

Originally developed in Japan in the 1980s, Riso machines were designed as a fast and cost-effective way to produce high-volume prints, with some machines able to do multiple colors, while others are capable of only printing in one at a time.  Organizations that needed to crank out mass amounts of prints would easily do so, and artists saw the creative potential in these machines.

Riso is perfect for zines, posters, art prints, booklets, and anything else that would look good with the distinct texture that the process provides.

Here at Grounded, we have three Riso machines, and we can't wait for you to see what they can make!
